After a 17 percent increase in the number of UK IT jobs posted from the end of 2017 to the first quarter of 2018, the second quarter saw a sharp decline. The 242,444 core information technology (IT) job postings in the second quarter of 2018 is down 29 percent year over year and 27 percent from last quarter, according to new IT employment research by CompTIA.
That said, the UK IT workforce grew 2 percent to 1.26 million from 2016 to 2017, and 4 percent growth is expected from 2017 to 2022. Unemployment in the United Kingdom also reached its lowest point since 1975, at 4.2 percent, holding steady from the previous 3 months.
Five IT skills appeared in the most job postings during the quarter:
- Software development principles
- Web development
- Microsoft development tools
And five occupations were listed in the most number of job postings:
- Programmers and software development professionals
- IT business analysts, architects and systems designers
- IT user support technicians
- Web design and development professionals
- IT and telecommunications professionals (other)
