Out of 553 U.S. hiring managers and recruiters, 57 percent describe the process of filling job openings with the right candidates challenging, according to CompTIA’s latest IT research brief, Employer Perceptions of IT Apprenticeships. And 67 percent anticipate more challenging times in the next two years.
Nearly all respondents cited challenges in finding candidates:
- With the right level of experience.
- With the right hard skills.
- In the local region.
Most organizations are open to new solutions and have tried things like social media, mobile apps, partnerships and more. As they seek out new approaches to developing and nurturing talent, they are considering IT apprenticeships. In fact, nearly 6 in 10 employers have a positive view of apprenticeships but less than half have heard of it applied to IT roles.
Apprenticeships can help employers train workers to suit their needs, address skills gaps early in a worker’s career and engage with local schools, community colleges and other feeders.
