The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) takes effect May 25, 2018. Organizations not in compliance with the directive on this date may be subject to stiff fines. This applies to EU-based companies as well as any firm around the world that processes or holds the personal data of data subjects residing in the European Union. Despite the two-year notice, CompTIA research indicates many U.S. companies are not fully prepared to comply with GDPR by the enactment date.
